Cancer Support Community Central Ohio is a local nonprofit rooted in the community it serves for over 21 years. Every program and service is offered at no cost to anyone affected by cancer. This means patients at any stage or diagnosis, survivors, caregivers, family members, friends, and even coworkers. Our mission is simple: uplift and strengthen people impacted by cancer by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care.
In a healthcare landscape that can feel overwhelming and impersonal, CSCCO offers something essential: belonging. Participants find others who truly understand. Caregivers discover they are not alone in their exhaustion and worry. Families learn tools to communicate and stay connected. Survivors reclaim a sense of purpose and joy.
Our organization’s hybrid model combines warm in-person gatherings along with accessible virtual options, ensuring support reaches people across the region, including those in rural areas or with limited mobility. Everything is designed so that the financial burden of cancer is never increased by seeking help.
All support groups and counseling are led by licensed mental health professionals experienced in psycho-oncology. Popular offerings include:
- Support and Networking Groups: Diagnosis-specific groups (breast cancer, blood cancers, prostate cancer, metastatic cancer, multiple myeloma, and more), caregiver support groups, grief support, post-treatment “Moving Beyond” groups, and specialized offerings such as Girlfriends Circle for Black women with breast cancer. Research consistently shows that these groups reduce feelings of isolation, loss of control, and hopelessness while improving quality of life.
- Individual, Couples, and Family Counseling: One-on-one time with skilled counselors to process emotions, relationship challenges, and the realities of treatment and survivorship.
- Healthy Lifestyle Programs: Cooking for Wellness classes focused on nutrition during and after treatment, gentle yoga, tai chi, stress management, and movement sessions that help participants feel stronger in body and mind.
- Young Adult and Family Support: Age-appropriate programming for families and teens, including art therapy, counseling, and resources that help families understand cancer and express their feelings in healthy ways. Families build coping skills and lasting memories together.
- Education and Resources: Workshops on topics ranging from side effects and clinical trials to financial navigation and talking to children about cancer. An on-site resource library offers trusted, expert-reviewed materials (including children’s books) that can be reviewed on-site or checked out free of charge. Personalized care plans help patients, survivors, and caregivers identify the programs best suited to their needs.
Whether someone is newly diagnosed, deep in treatment, living with metastatic disease, or years into survivorship, or whether they are the spouse, parent, child, or friend providing care, they have a place with us.
