In the 1960s, a young Chicago couple returned from their honeymoon. They lamented that there was no place at home to buy the modern housewares they admired during their European travels.

Passionate to change that, the couple leased a space, hired an employee, and traveled Europe purchasing wares from artisans of glass, ceramics, copper pots, textiles and more. With no money left for displays, they showcased items on stacked crates and filled barrels. And thus a concept was born!
