Celebration for Life

The OSUCCC Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute

Since the first Celebration for Life in 2002, this dinner was formerly held at Smith & Wollensky each May and raised over $18 million to support the James Fund for Life, an annual fund created by Abigail and Les Wexner to advance research and technology at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC- James).

In 2013 alone, Celebration for Life, the James Fund for Life and the Ed Razek Fund at the OSUCCC – James (created to honor 2013 Celebration for Life Honorary Chair, Ed Razek) together raised over $2.3 million. Ohio State is one of just 41 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States, as designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and one of only four centers funded by the NCI to conduct both Phase I and Phase II clinical trials. Past years’ proceeds have helped the OSUCCC – James purchase robotic surgical equipment, image-guided radiation therapy, MRI and PET/CT system, a flow cytometer to measure cell function related to cancer and a digital mobile mammography unit. Since 2009, proceeds have supported the Technology Acquisition Fund, which purchased technology for the new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, which opened in December 2014.
