Easton Environmental: Think Green. Love Green. Bee Green.

Share this post:

For over 20 years, we’ve taken steps at Easton to preserve and protect Earth’s natural resources and services. With these small steps, we’re doing our part to steward a healthy, sustainable environment, benefitting the Central Ohio Area and beyond.

THINK GREEN.

Over the past few decades, the role of corporations, governments, and companies in protecting the environment and Earth’s natural resources and reducing pollution has moved into the spotlight. Both public sector and private sector companies and organizations have taken steps to make their respective communities more aware of their environmental impact with the goal of counteracting their carbon footprint.

LOVE GREEN.

Each year, over 30 million people visit Easton, so we know how important it is for us to put the right programs and initiatives in place to offset our impact on the environment. With a robust recycling program, energy conservation efforts, and the reduction of fossil fuel usage on-property, we’ve made notable strides. But we wanted to do more.

BEE GREEN.

Did you know that one of every three bites of food eaten worldwide depends on pollinators, especially bees, for a successful harvest? Unfortunately, over the last two decades, the winter decline of the U.S. bee population has reached nearly 40 percent. However, the winter of 2019-2020 saw the second smallest winter drop in 14 years – 22.2 percent. Bee Informedattributed the lower loss rate to a milder winter and new colony management practices.

To assist the global efforts to grow the bee population and habitats, we’ve created two new pollinator-friendly spaces on-property.

Our Sunflower Patch, located at Stelzer Rd. and Easton Way, east of the Hilton, blooms in the summer months. Sunflowers are rich with nectar and pollen, and are essential to Apiculture, or the way honeybees produce honey and wax.

Our Nature Walk, located at Easton Loop West and Easton Way, just south of Trader Joe’s, has created a natural environment for pollinators and wildlife. The low-mow and no-mow areas offer native grasses and plants, and nesting boxes for bees, birds, and bats. We invite guests to explore the Nature Walk during their visits to Easton Town Center.

We hope you will visit Easton to discover all the ways we’re working to preserve and protect earth’s natural resources and services.
