We’re always looking for new and exciting ways to offer community involvement opportunities to businesses and individuals that want to enjoy all Easton has to offer. That’s why we teamed up with Yellowbird Foodshed, an Ohio-based community-supported agriculture (CSA) program to provide fresh, quality produce to our visitors every Thursday from 4-7 PM at our Farmer’s Market To-Go!

We had a chance to talk with Benji Ballmer, Business Developer at Yellowbird Foodshed, to share what’s so special about this organization. Here’s what he had to say:

Tell us a little about Yellowbird Foodshed and how it works.

I started as a grower and realized that there needed to be another way to bring the produce that farmers were growing and producing to the marketplace.

I’ve always thought that you’re either disrupting or being disrupted in today’s market, so I got to work reimagining the market and Yellowbird Foodshed is what I came up with. It’s a subscription-based service that drops off 100% Ohio farm food in a convenient box to various locations throughout central Ohio every week.

You can customize it with three different sizes: mini for $20, base for $30 and full for $40. It’s a very seasonal and natural menu. Plus, you can add on eggs, milk, meat, poultry, cheese and tons of other food items, too.

We’ve even added an online store that has everything from locally sourced flours to potato chips, allowing you to complete a large majority of your shopping trip with Yellowbird Foodshed.

How did you team up with Easton to start the Farmer’s Market To-Go every Thursday?

We actually had a long-time member who is a yoga instructor at Easton suggest that she’d love to see her studio act as a pick-up spot. Eventually, I went and met with members of the Easton leadership team for a luncheon. They loved the idea!

How many people do you currently serve in the state?

We’re closing in on 1,000 customers served. We’re super excited about hitting that benchmark. Five years ago, we had seven members and we’ve grown it organically from there.

What kind of produce do you have in the boxes?

We stick to a seasonal menu of offerings, so it’s constantly changing with whatever time of the year it is. But no matter what season it is, you can always count on it being fresh, healthy and delicious.

Why do you think it’s important for people to incorporate fresh, local Ohio food into their diets on a weekly basis?

There are major benefits to eating locally. This food is being picked and boxed, at most, three days before you’re getting it in your hands. This is an laborious process for us, but we’re delivering the most fresh and nutritious produce that you could possibly have and that’s why we love doing it.

How can people sign up?

All you have to do is visit us at and click the “join now” button in the upper right corner. Then you’ll choose a pick-up location and be led through a simple sign up form. There aren’t any waitlists. We try to make getting started as simple as possible.

Plus, you’re in complete control of your account, whether you want to put it on hold for a week and pick it back up later.

When asked if he had anything he wanted to touch on before we left, Benji said:

Just know that it’s never too late to sign up. You can join all the way through Thanksgiving and we would love to have to you join¬–even if it’s just for a week before the season ends. It makes starting next season that much easier.
