Bee Friendly at Easton

Did you know that one-third of the world’s food supply relies on honey bees? Yet entomologists estimate that between 33 to 50 percent of honey bee colonies are dying every year.

Pollinators like honey bees are imperative to the growth of most fruits, vegetables, and nuts. And as their populations decline, it’s important for us to take action to preserve and revive the species.

How We're Staying Bee Friendly

Pollinators sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce. Birds, bats, butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, small mammals, and most importantly, bees are pollinators. At Easton, we have supplemented all of our landscape plantings with over 30 known perennials, 15 different varieties of trees, over a dozen shrubs, and many summer annuals that are proven pollinators.

We have no species of plants on property that are harmful to bees.

In partnership with the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (COBA), Easton established five hives in an off-property location for local bees to cultivate and thrive. Through these five hives, Easton and COBA were able to extract over 60 pounds of honey. At the 2022 Ohio State Fair, a frame of this honey was entered into competition and won second place in the Creative Arts category.
