Real Tips From Real Moms for Exploring Easton With the Family

Family trips at Easton are bound to make memories for the entire family! But with so much available to do and only so many hours in a shopping trip, making the most of every second goes a long way in ending the day with big smiles. That’s why we're excited to share some awesome tips and tricks from MomE and her crew of MomE Mavens, as well as our fans, on how to explore and enjoy Easton with your family.

How do I get everyone from place to place?

It’s said that sometimes it’s the journey that matters more than the destination. This seems like an appropriate saying for a lot of moms bringing their kids along for a day of fun at Easton. Once you leave the spaciousness of your trusty SUV or minivan, you’ll need to find the best means of getting your gang from place to place across Easton. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of useful means of transporting everyone in a safe, fun and timely manner!

MomE says the Easton Trolley is sure to fascinate little ones and make jetting between its three pick up and drop off locations a breeze. Custom built for Easton in 2005, it’s anything but ordinary and allows even the most seasoned visitors to see Easton in a new way. The Trolley is free of charge and tips collected by it are donated to support Easton’s Change for Charity program!

If the Easton Trolley is something right out of a scene set in San Francisco, Easton BuggE is its New York colleague, a convenient and comfortable shuttle that can take you wherever you need to go. All you have to do is park your car and hitch a ride with the BuggE. It’s available from 12-6 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

What are the go-to restaurants for family dining?

When stomachs start rumbling, moms know that the clock starts ticking on ending up with “hangry” kids. However, if you’re at Easton then you’re in luck! There are plenty of great spots to grab a bite to eat that are not only kid friendly but also have menus that could please any parent. Some of the best spots to eat with kids are Brio Tuscan Grille, Rusty Bucket and Kona Grill.

MomE loves Brio’s paper-topped tables because they act as an excellent canvas for the little ones to play a few games of tic-tac-toe or draw their favorite cartoon character. They also have an option for kids to play with a ball of dough before the food arrives, which is sure to keep your little ones busy rolling and molding their dough before dinner comes.

MomE says she's also had a lot of fun eating at Kona Grill with her family. It offers a unique experience thanks to its colorful fish tank and enchanting waterfall positioned near the stairs. They also make the actual dining experience a blast with cute, little touches. One thing MomE appreciates is that with the order of a kid’s meal comes a cute “orange bear,” which is exactly what its name describes.

Another family-friendly restaurant is Rusty Bucket. It has a great kids menu that is sure to have something for every one of your little eaters.

How can I keep my kids engaged and entertained while exploring Easton?

Keeping them entertained and engaged is a little bit easier when you’re packed into a booth at your favorite restaurant, but it’s a whole different ballgame when you’re hopping from store to store. With the help of MomE and her group of MomE Maven friends, we’ve compiled some awesome tips for thriving while shopping with your little ones.

MomE says planning to end with a visit to a spot that the kids really enjoy can act a great reward for good behavior. The LEGO Store is an awesome carrot to dangle in front of them as you check other stores off of your list. MomE Maven Deb S. adds, “I try to preface the trip with a big reward at the end, like visiting the American Girl store and some ice cream at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Then, as we run through my errands we have something to look forward to! Win-win-win!”

If you’re looking to knock out as many shopping lists as you can in one store, try Macy’s. Plus, the escalators are always a highlight with kids. When it’s time to take a break or slip off and leave the kids with dad for a little while, the book cart in the Easton Station Building can occupy kids for a long time. When they’re all done reading, they can visit the train mural on level 2 that shows all of the places people come to Easton from.

MomE’s daughter had some thoughts on the matter too! She said she loves shopping at places like H&M, where she and her mother can shop side by side. While she always appreciates stopping by the Town Square pop fountain during the summer months, no shopping trip would be complete without a quick stop at IT’SUGAR for a little treat.

How about some more awesome tips from moms who have been there and done that when it comes to navigating Easton with children in tow?

Columbus mom and blogger, Abby H. had the following to say: “If it’s a long shopping trip, we break it down into areas and sprinkle something fun in. For example, if we are shopping at the shops around Brio, we take time to look at the trains. When we are inside the Station Building, we stop for a cookie or let them run up the stairs. When we are in the Fenlon Square area, we play with the frog fountains. And when we are by the LEGO Store, we stop in for a little play. Each area of Easton has opportunity for kids to have fun!”

Fellow MomE Maven Barbara B. had a great tactic for keeping the little ones engaged throughout the trip. She said, “We try to remember to pack paper, stickers and coloring supplies. Often when we are there to shop, we alternate between a “mom” store and a “kid” store. Then everyone wins!”

Columbus mom and fitness enthusiast, Courtney S.’s son also knows what to expect at Easton. She said, “My son knows stroller time is snack time, so I bring fun and healthy snacks along, as well as activity pads.”

Speaking of strollers, Serena H. had this to share: “When my oldest daughter was younger, I attached a musical box to her stroller that played different little beats. She absolutely loved bouncing to the music. When dining out, especially with my boys, having them color or do some type of puzzle kept them entertained."
