Ohio goes Sales Tax Free August 4-6
It’s time for back-to-school shopping, and it’s time to save!
Starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6 at 11:59 p.m. Ohio will be offering no sales tax on various items. This will apply to all clothing purchases $75 or less, and school supplies and school instructional purchases $20 or less.

Take advantage of this opportunity and shop until you drop. With this awesome holiday you are able to purchase a number of items, as long as the items you are purchasing do not exceed the price limit. For Example, if you purchase a number of items that cost less than $75 and your total is greater than $75 you will still be sales tax exempt. However, the first $75 of an $80 clothing purchase will not be sales tax exempt. All vendors of these items are required to provide these sales tax exempt discounts. Have fun getting ready for the new school year!
Sales tax free school supplies items include but are not limited to:
binders, book bags, calculators, crayons, erasers, folders, glue, highlighters, index cards, lunch boxes, markers, notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, protractors, rulers, and scissors.
School Instructional Materials
Sales tax free School instructional materials include only:
reference books, reference maps and globes, textbooks, and workbooks.
Sales tax free clothing items include but are not limited to:
shirts, blouses, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, uniforms (athletic and nonathletic), shoes, underwear, socks, coats and jacket, hats, belts, bathing suits and wedding apparel.
