Get to Know Koko Tea Salon & Bakery
We’re excited to share Koko Tea Salon & Bakery is now open at Easton! If you don’t already have a sweet tooth, you will after reading all about their delicious bakery items and unique tea flavors.
To learn more about the sweet treats this Columbus bakery has to offer, we sat down with Koko Tea Salon & Bakery owner, Ava Misseldine. Here’s what she had to say:
Tell us more about Koko Tea Salon & Bakery!
I actually started Koko to take a break from my other job, where I worked as a chemical engineer in a cancer research lab. I’m from Hawaii, and Koko means “sweet” in Hawaiian, so that’s how the store name came about.
My background is in tea, so at first, I started just a tea salon. Eventually, I started baking things to go along with the tea, and the baked goods took off! It morphed over time into a bakery and tea salon.
We offer a variety of products, including hand-blended teas, authentic bubble teas, coffee and baked goods, of course! We’ve been featured on the Food Network twice and won Best Bakery in Columbus for the past five years. We offer gluten free options, vegan options and 100% Kona Coffee from Hawaii, which is imported from my little brother’s coffee plantation.
How many locations do you have now?
Two! In addition to our Easton location, we have our tea salon downtown, which is where we do all of our high teas and tea parties. We took over the ballroom at the old Seneca Hotel and it’s awesome! It looks like something out of The Great Gatsby.
Are there any customer favorites? What are your specialties?
Our red velvet is what we are best known for, and what we were originally on the Food Network for. Triple berry lavender is our signature flavor and another fan favorite. In the summer, we actually go and pick the berries for it ourselves!
We also have tea blends that are really popular, such as our lemongrass mint and French lemon cream, which tastes like my Nana’s lemon pound cake! Many people know us for our array of flavors, as we offer more than 120 of them. We feature those flavors in everything, whether it’s our macarons, cupcakes, cakes or cake pops. We also change them daily.
Aside from serving delicious teas, coffees and baked goods, are there any other unique products or services Koko offers?
Of course! We do custom orders for any occasion and we also do a ton of wedding cakes! Our wedding cakes were actually the reason we were on Food Network for the second time, where we won a competition on Wedding Couture. We love to bake, but we really love to decorate!
Koko also offers corporate catering. We serve some pretty unique boxed lunches featuring items such as our quiche, sandwiches, salads and bakery items. The next time you need a quick lunch, stop by and try one!
Are you hiring right now?
Yes, we are! We’re hiring for both part-time and full-time positions. If you enjoy working with the public and have a love of baked goods, you can learn more and apply for our current openings here.
Do you have any upcoming events?
We are planning some decorating classes for Halloween, so stay tuned for more information!
