Deck the Halls: A Holiday Decorating Guide
Holiday decorating is more than just putting up a tree and hanging a few stockings. From lights and garland to decked out wreaths, we’re here to help with quick and easy decorating ideas to spruce up your home for the holidays. After all, the holiday season is already well underway. And, if you’re anything like Easton’s MomE, you’re probably ready to pull out your ornaments and start decorating.
When is the best time to start decorating?
Whenever you’d like! There’s no rule that says you have to wait until after Thanksgiving to start decorating for the holidays. And, if you'd prefer to wait until the first few weeks of December, that's okay too!
If you’re worried about being crunched for time during the holidays, start early! That way, you'll be able to spend more time enjoying your family's company throughout the holiday season.
Tips for Decorating Your Tree
Do you have a tree yet? If not, stop by Costco or Restoration Hardware to pick up a faux one (and a few value packs of ornaments)! Faux trees are perfect if you’re tired of all the work and mess that comes with a traditional evergreen.
Once you have a tree, it’s time to make it shine! Your Christmas tree can be a true reflection of your family’s unique holiday traditions and personality. To find tree decorations that really showcase everything you love about your family, stop by West Elm or Crate & Barrel.
Is your tree almost full? If you’re looking for a few unique ornaments to add to your already vast collection, shop the best of Ohio at Celebrate Local or Bink Davies. You might find some incredible handmade artisan holiday decorations, and a few quirky holiday gifts.
Tips for Decorating Outside
Turn your entire home into a winter oasis by adding a little extra sparkle to the outside of your home. Wreaths and garland are perfect for adding a festive touch to your porch, front door or garage entrance. Don’t forget the lights! Find all your outdoor lighting needs at Costco and Restoration Hardware.
Spruce Up Your Mantel
Transform your mantel into a merry focal point with the selection at Pottery Barn and Urban Home & Garden Holiday House. Find beautiful stocking holders, showcase family photos in gorgeous holiday frames or create a wintry village right above your fireplace.
Add A Little Holiday Cheer Everywhere
Spruce up the kitchen and get inspired with red and green place settings from Z Gallerie. Make your home smell like the holidays with signature candles and soaps from White Barn or Bath & Body Works. Finally, add a little something to your bathroom, like snowman hand towels from Crate & Barrel.
Where to Store Everything
Packing and unpacking decorations around the holidays can be a hassle. Prepare ahead of time by picking up storage bins from The Container Store and labeling them based on the room they’re for. At The Container Store, you’ll also find adorable holiday tins perfect for holiday cookies, and a gift wrap wonderland!

Q: When do you start decorating?
A: I enjoy decorating the weekend before Thanksgiving. I don’t think there’s such a thing as decorating too early! Holiday decorations are delightful and make the house seem so much warmer. Plus, after Easton’s Lighting Ceremony takes place, I’m just ready! And, once the decorating is done, there's nothing better than creating holiday memories by hanging out around a cozy fire playing games. I particularly enjoy the selection of family-friendly games at Games Galore.
Q: Where do you like to go for new holiday decorations?
A: Crate & Barrel has never let me down in terms of new decorations, but this season you must check out Urban Home & Garden Holiday House! They have the most adorable, festive decorations for trees, tables and mantles.
