A Crash Course in Craft Beer with World of Beer at Easton
If you’re curious about delving into the world of craft beer, but aren’t sure where to start, we have a few pointers that may help. This week, we talked to World of Beer at Easton to give you the low down on all things craft beer.
What you’ll find at World of Beer
World of Beer at Easton is just that, a world of beer. They specialize in all things beer and have more than 58 taps, 500 bottles of beer, and go through roughly 60 different kegs a week. They create beer shots and infuse beer into everything they do; even the Belgian waffles. At World of Beer atEaston you’ll find adrinkfor everyone in your party.
The craft beer basics
Craft beers typically come from small independent breweries and have more complex flavors than beer that’s mass produced. For the most part, there are four basic principles that make up a beer: water, hops, yeast and malted barley. It’s the amount of those ingredients that will determine a beer’s flavor, color, foam and style.
Introducing your palette to craft beer
The best way to figure out what kind of craft beer you’ll enjoy is to ask yourself what you like. If you’re a big fan of bourbon, look for a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. If you can’t live without your morning coffee, it’s worth trying a stout. If you’re looking for something more refreshing and closer to a Bud Light, try a lager or pale ale.
At World of Beer, the staff, all of whom are self-proclaimed beer geeks, can lead you in the right direction. Based on what you like, they’ll be able to choose four different beers to include in a flight by leading you toward something that aligns with your taste buds or something popular they think you’ll enjoy.
What to try if you’re a wine lover
So, you love wine and don’t have an affinity for the bitterness in beer… yet. Try a mead! Centuries ago mead was the drink of choice and the fermented honey beverage is still a sweet and delicious way to branch into craft beer. If you’re still unsure, sip on a cider before starting your craft beer journey with a fruit beer or American Wild Ale.
What’s on trend?
The India pale ale (IPA) is all the rage right now and World of Beer has seven of them on tap at all times. The IPA is one of the most popular styles because it is synonymous with the craft beer revolution. It has bold flavors and is perfect for someone who loves hops and bitter notes at the end of their beer.
What food to pair with your beer
World of Beer at Easton features an elevated tavern-style menu. They serve BEERunch (beer brunch) on the weekends, are known for their tacos, burgers, German pretzel with homemade beer cheese and much more. They have quite the variety and work hard to infuse the flavors of beer into the food they make from scratch.
