Nothing is more exciting for a LEGO® enthusiast than seeing 90,000 LEGO bricks dropped from the bucket of a front loader. Nothing except, perhaps, the promise of a LEGOLAND® Discovery Center in your hometown.

To commemorate the groundbreaking of the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus, a small group of local children dug into 90,000 LEGO bricks that were emptied from a front loader onto the Town Square at Easton Town Center. As part of the unconventional groundbreaking, representatives from LEGOLAND Discovery Center and Easton Town Center were joined by a group of local children and dignitaries to mark the official start of the eagerly anticipated build of the attraction.

“Columbus, Ohio is the perfect location to open our next LEGOLAND Discovery Center, and we couldn’t think of a better location to open than popular shopping, dining and entertainment destination of Easton Town Center,’ said Jacob Kristensen, general manager, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus. “We are elated to begin construction of this unique LEGO themed attraction, and are aiming to open in Fall 2018. Ever since we announced our arrival, we have been inundated by the eager public, and we can’t wait to deliver an experience for the next generation of budding architects and builders to showcase their talents through imaginative play.”

The 36,000-square-foot, $10 million, two-story attraction was specially created and designed from a child’s perspective and will provide two to three hours of interactive and educational fun for children ages three to 10-years-old. Young visitors will experience a range of LEGO theme play areas, two interactive rides, master classes from the LEGO Master Model Builder, special party rooms for birthdays and other celebrations, and a 4-D cinema.

“From the moment it was announced that LEGOLAND Discovery Center would be coming to Easton Town Center customers of all ages have been contacting us wanting to know about what’s in store and when it would open,” said Jennifer Peterson, Chief Executive of Easton. “With today’s launch, we are thrilled to be that much closer to offering our customers this unique entertainment and educational experience.  We know that LEGOLAND Discovery Center will become a destination for not only Ohio, but the region.”

The attraction will also feature a MINILAND built entirely of LEGO bricks highlighting iconic buildings and landmarks from around Columbus. Later this year, central Ohioans will be encouraged to vote for landmarks they’d like to see included.

There are a number of additional activities planned in preparation for the grand opening of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus.
