Visual Sales Manager

Overview of Position
The Visual Sales Manager position is responsible for the overall success and achievement of their store and specifically the achievement of the store’s visual standards, ongoing visual maintenance, merchandise processing and campaign set-ups. This position partners with the General Manager and other Store Managers to support and execute specific store plans and employee development. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the visual merchandising efforts in the store ensuring Perfect Product Presentation which includes merchandise processing, maintenance and merchandising and consistently follows up with the staff to ensure training is being put into action
- Interprets and directs product presentation according to direction from the Visual Sales and Buying Departments
- Responsible for planning and executing all company initiatives and directives (training, visual sales, logistics, staff development, etc.) with a focus on Visual Sales in partnership with the Visual Sales team
- Meets regularly with direct reports to review and approve plans for
implementing all Visual Sales initiatives and to ensure each individual’s area of focus is consistently and correctly implemented
- Helps develop Visual Sales awareness among the entire staff and evaluates their progress including safety of store equipment
- Partners with the Sales Manager to ensure staff has a consistent focus on providing Man in the Desert Selling to every customer
- Partners with the Training Manager to make sure appropriate training is scheduled and is implemented, evaluating the effectiveness of the training and identifying additional training needs of the staff
- Manages the salesfloor 10 hours per week
- Works in partnership with the General Manager and other Store Managers on all aspects of driving the business; identifying, sorting and setting goals and priorities for the success of the store including sales goals, elfa goals, average ticket and payroll goals
- Is actively involved in recruiting, hiring and Onboarding, working with the General Manager to identify needs, set hiring goals, plan for seasonal needs and balance the skills and experience needed in the stores
- Responsible for new employee training as well as on-going training
development with a focus on our solutions-based selling approach
- Leads, coaches and trains the staff by managing behavior, actions, goals and performance through proper communication and follow-up
- Actively engages with employees on the salesfloor through observation, conversation and coaching as well as modeling proper selling and visual sales techniques with customers
- Communicates consistently with the General Manager and participates in weekly Manager Meetings
- Supports all company initiatives and directives (sales, visual sales, training, inventory, logistics, staff development, etc.) ensuring successful execution
- Writes and conducts performance appraisals for direct reports and
participates in full-time and part-time reviews when appropriate
- Monitors and ensures the store is compliant in all legal matters and
communicates any needs or concerns to the appropriate parties
- Takes corrective action when necessary, collaborating with the Vice
President and the management team on the appropriate conversations, actions, follow-up and documentation
- Is responsible for supporting store payroll expense plan and partners with the General Manager to use payroll and labor effectively
- Maintains awareness of regional marketing, public relations, advertising and community involvement activities in the market
- Reviews and evaluates company and store-specific reporting and applies that knowledge to driving sales and affecting positive change in the store
- Works with the scheduling system and Store Managers to create weekly and daily schedules
- Handles cash and other valuables appropriately and securely
- Maintains a safe working and shopping environment, utilizing all available resources, ensuring safety and security of the employees, customers and property while overseeing the store Injury and Illness Prevention Program
- Consistently arrives promptly to work the assigned schedule
- Responsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information
- Performs other requested tasks and duties

Experience and Skills Required
- College degree preferred
- 3-5 years management/leadership experience
- Experience in retail sales field, preferred
- Ability to travel 10% a year, based on the business needs
- Is committed to working scheduled hours (minimum 45 hours per week) and has the flexibility to work a varied schedule and additional hours based on changing business needs
- Experience coaching and managing teams – balancing the details as well as the broader view of the business
- Makes strategic and effective decisions in the best interest of our customers and our company, taking care to objectively process information
- Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work
- Knowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels within and outside the organization
- Ability to quickly separate the mission-critical tasks from the lower priority tasks; focuses on the most value-added projects of the day or week
- Flexible, with a positive attitude and passion for knowledge
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to
successfully manage multiple projects at once
- Possesses focused attention to detail and solid organizational and
prioritization skills while working quickly and accurately under pressure
- Professional manner and strong communication skills internally and with outside vendor partners
- Makes strategic and effective decisions in the best interest of our customers and our company, taking care to objectively process information
